Phonetic

Hello guys J

let's learn about Phonetic, in it we'll learn about Phonetic Symbol or International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA).

What is Phonetic?
Phonetic is basic in linguistic which study how to pronounce sounds and the sound not change the meaning and the function of a word.

What is Phonetic Symbol?
Phonetic symbol or International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) Is the visual representation of speech sounds.

In the Phonetic symbol we learn about vowel and consonant.

  • Vowel is sound produced with a comparatively open configuration of the vocal tract. the sound is lost air without any obstacles or pressure from the organ of speech. Vowel are twio types:

1. Monophthong (Single vowel) is a pure sound, where there is one vowel sound in a syllable.

  1.  ᴂ     (apple, sat, had)
  2. e / ԑ  (ten, met, set)
  3.  i / i   (happy, verry)
  4. ɪ        (sit, hit, bit)
  5. u/u    (you, too, flew)

  9. ɑ       (far, car. bath)
  10. ʌ       (up, above, love)
  11. ɔ       (fought, law, door)

2. Diphthong (Double vowel) is where there are two vowel sounds in a syllable.

  1.      eɪ  (hey, way, say)
  2.       aɪ  (my, eye, shy)
  3.      ᴏʊ (go, no, low)
  4.      aʊ (how, now)
  5.      ɔɪ  (boy, toy, joy)

  • Consonant is sound of language with obstacles and pressure air on some organ of speech.Consonant are two types:

1. Voiceless is the letters that come out of the mouth, not of the throat and when we hold our throat, then there is no vibration when saying the letters.
  1. p (pencil, peanut, please)
  2. k (can, cats, cackle)
  3. t  (take, two. turtles)
  4. t∫ (change, chewy, watches)
  5. f  (four, five, fellas)
  6. s  (six, slimy, snails)
  7. ∫  (shine, shoe, shouldn't)
  8. θ  (thick, thin, thank)
  9. h  ( hello, how, hat)

2. Voiced is the letters that come out of the throat, as you pronounce a letter and when we hold the throat, it will feel vibrations when saying the letters.
  1. b (big, bad, baby)
  2. g (girl, giggling, gargoyles)
  3. d (don't, disagree, doughnuts)
  4. ʤ (just, jam, juicy)

  2. IPA's a recent variation right? 19th century since that's when international relations began. But there's apparently older versions of IPA: palaeotype alphabet, which evolves to romic then phonotypic and eventually IPA. Could you explain the difference between all four?

    BalasHapus
    Balasan
    1. Okay, I think if I explain all four will more than one paper so i give you link about all four that. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1111/j.1467-968X.1985.tb01040.x

      Hapus
    7. lack are not a obstacles to learning ci. but learning phonetic is to find out how sound is produced by human organs so that even if they have a shortage we can still see their mouth movements and how the sound they produce from their organs .except for dumb people it's hard to understand them.

      Hapus
    8. ooh okay, i see. so there are no difficult obstacles in learning phonetics right?

      Hapus
    3. Because to make it our pronunciation clearly.

      Hapus
    4. pronounciation? how about phonology?tbh i dont know what different they are.

      Hapus
    5. The different of both are Phonology is the term used for the study of the speech sounds used in a particular language. Phonetics is the term for the description and classification of speech sounds, particularly how sounds are produced, transmitted and received.

      Hapus
    6. uwuu, can you explain with the simple word?

      Hapus
    7. phonology is study of the speech sounds used in a particular language.
phonetic is particularly how sounds are produced.

      Hapus

      Hapus
    6. What's the strength of phonetic ?even phonetics only study about sounds

      Hapus
    7. because learning the sound is why phonetic is important. If you talk your voice doesn't come out? must come out right and the sound you know where is it came from and how it was produced by the organ speech?so that's why must leran phonetic.

      Hapus
    8. If I only know where the sounds come out and how the sounds produce,so what benefits do I get ? Especially in my daily life

  20. Can you tell me few parts of phonetic and explain it ??

    BalasHapus
    Balasan
    1. Part of phonetic there are vowel and cosonant. Consonant is sounds of language with obstacles and pressure air on some organ of speech. Vowel is sound produced with a comparatively open configuration of the vocal tract.

      Hapus
    2. Besides consonants, is there part of phonetic maybe stress, syllabel or others. Can explain it and give me the examples

      Hapus
    3. part of phonetic :
      1. Acoustic phonetics is the study of the physical properties of sounds, the air wave frequencies of which sounds consist.example : the air wave frequencies of which sounds consist, frequency of vibrations measured in hertz, and Instruments used to measure and record speech sounds include the sound spectrograph
      2. Auditory phonetics is the study of how sounds are perceived by the human ear or recognized by the brain. example : by the human ear or recognized by the brain.
      3. Articulatory phonetics is the study of how sounds are produced by the vocal apparatus. example : tongue, lips, jaw, and other speech organs

      Hapus
    4. Tahnkyou for the explanation, so how about natural sounds in what part of the explanation above ? And why ??

      Hapus
    5. Oke. Natural sounds is vowel because the sound is lost air without any obstacles or pressure from the organ of speech.

      Hapus
    6. Okay, but I mean natural sounds here is sounds of nature such as wind, thunder or something like that. so how about the sounds ? Including Which part of phonetics ?

      Hapus
    7. Komentar ini telah dihapus oleh pengarang.

      Hapus
    8. Why sounds of nature including the vowels part ?

      Hapus
    9. Because vowel sound is lost air without any obstacles or pressure from the organ of speech.

      Hapus
    10. Oh okay I got the point.
But I want to know the example of apply phonetic especially IPA in real life, can you give it ?

      Hapus
    11. For example: Man, when saying that, the upper lip and lower lip (both lips closed).

      Hapus
    12. Okay, thankyou for the example. And I want to know, is there different for our pronounce when we use IPA or not ? Why ?

      Hapus
    13. Of course there is, when we speak the sound out clearly and can be like native speakers when we speak.

      Hapus
    14. Oh okay, thankyou for the explanation :)

      Hapus
  21. try to find similarities in diphthong and monofthong

    BalasHapus

      Hapus
    2. Why important? because to make it we know how the sound produce. and also with phonetic we can know when people say but the sound doesn't come out, the way it is by looking at their mouth parts or organs of speech how someone is talking use their organs.
